September 30, 1938
marks the anniversary of British and French Prime Ministers Neville Chamberlain
and Edouard Daladier signing the Munich Pact with German leader A dolf Hitler.
The agreement temporarily avoided the inevitable war but gave Czechoslovakia
away to Germany for a year or so of an uneasy peace. Chamberlain of course is
known for his infamous phrase “Peace in our time”. We all know how this turned
out. Lao Tzu tells us that beautiful words may not always be true. Do not be
misled by the wolf in sheep’s clothing or the smile that may deflect attention
from the dagger in the hand.
