50 years had passed since the French submarine Minerve was lost in January of 1968, and the French Navy still refused to release the file that may contain information about what happened. The Navy had searched for the sub, but it was never located. An appeal to French President Macron was made and in 2018, a declassification of the file was enacted. The search continued and on July 21, 2019, pieces were located that were definitely identified as having come from the Minerve. On the day of the discovery of the remains, it was announced that they would remain untouched and the site would become a maritime sanctuary. 50 lives were lost in the disaster. The cause of the accident has never been established.
