Keep It Simple

Life really wouldn’t be so hard for most people if they stopped complicating things. Keep it simple. Keep it easy. There will be challenges from time to time, but you’ll want to see if you can meet them. My guess is that you can.

Thoreau said ‘simplify, simplify, simplify. It just isn’t that hard if you put your mind to it. Work smart and easy instead of hard and dumb. Choose the path of least resistance when you can. Sometimes you gotta take the other path, but keep it simple and you’ll be alright. People always want to complicate things for some reason. Maybe to try to show off how ‘smart’ they are. That’s not the way! Even the worst times can be met with a simple understanding.

Lurk, lurk, lurk. Don’t join the conversation. Talk always ruins everything. Sometimes the longcut is shorter than the supposed shortcut. Let things pass. Don’t get caught up in the trivial stuff that goes around and doesn’t matter. Work, work, work. Work at being simple. Doing the simple can seem complex at first, but you’ll get the hang of it.

Return to the simple. Walk in the rain. Play in the snow. Listen to the leaves rustling. Returning to the simple is returning to the Way. The Way is in the rain falling and the snow falling. It is in the trees and the wind. It is no more difficult than that. The sound of falling rain needs no translation. There is no need to make the easy difficult. No need to make the wet dry. Be simple like the moon crossing the night sky. Fall like the raindrop to earth that has no agenda.  Welcome what floats in over the mountains. Welcome the snowflakes that fall in the forest.

Go sit in the sun. Read a book outside. That’s reality. Look to the clouds. Look to the ocean and see it come in with the morning tide. It is there for you. It always has been. Why were you looking elsewhere?
