Bridge Of Freedom

crossing that bridge was like signing the final papers in the lawyer’s office
closing the door on the past, divorcing it

didn’t need a rear view mirror ‘cause I wasn’t looking

today seemed as good a time as any, before I changed my mind

lost my nerve, talked myself out of it

putting it all behind me, folding it up and throwing it out the window

on the dirty pavement letting it blow into a ditch where it belongs

happy I was to get away

didn’t have the slightest idea where I was going or what I was going to do

once I got there but I didn’t care

no turning back now, no regrets

stopped at a cheap steakhouse for a meal of gristle

it was raining big dogs when I came out

newfoundlands, great danes, a german shepherd for good measure

people were huddled under the eaves waiting for it to stop

I just started out walking to the car, I was free now

I wasn’t made of sugar, I wouldn’t melt

didn’t care if I got wet or struck by lightning for that matter

was drenched when I got in the car with a smile on my face

rain splattering on the windshield

I’m free! I’m free!

now…where to go, where to go, what to do?
