Plato and Atlantis

Can one of the most sought after places on Earth be a place that may have never existed in the first place?…or even if no one actually knows where it is located?… maybe it was just the product of someone’s imagination, a legend of no real form or substance…actually, it was a fictional island that was mentioned in Plato's works Timaeus and Critiasjust…the story concludes with Atlantis becoming unpopular with the deities in charge, and submerging into the Atlantic Ocean…despite its relatively minor importance in Plato's work, the Atlantis story has had and continues to have a considerable impact on literature and some people’s way of thinking…now some ancient writers viewed Atlantis to be nothing more than fictional or metaphorical myth…yet, others believed it to be real, something that was tangible...it is a legend so strong that people have tried to find it, pinpoint it, and claim that it really was…and just where this island of paradise might be…guesses from these people have been from the Mediterranean Sea, to somewhere under the Atlantic Ocean, to off the coast of Europe, or even in Antarctica…in fact, many of the proposed locations of Atlantis have nothing to do with the actual writings of Plato and his story…in some cases, amateur scholars have misinterpreted Plato's narrative as not fiction, but historical tradition…and some have used that as a misguided basis for trying to determine where the island is…or supposedly is.
