Most of us are familiar
with the story of the Romanov family...you know the Tsar and Tsarina of Russia
who met an unfortunate end at the hands of revolutionaries...well, do you know
there was only one Romanov who is known to be actually elected to
office...that would be Paul Romanovsky-Ilyinsky who served three terms as mayor
of Palm Beach, Florida in the 1990’s...he was the son of Grand Duke Dmitri
Pavlovich of Russia who was a first cousin of the Tsar himself…(and a
co-conspirator in the killing of Rasputin)...when communism fell in the Sovlet
Union, a group of Russian nobles asked Romanovsky-Ilyinsky to come back to
Russia and assume the title of Tsar...although flattered by the offer, he
politely declined.
