Art forgery is
as old as art itself. In fact, an acclaimed art forger was held up in great
esteem by previous societies. In these times though when a painting by one of
the great masters could fetch millions and millions of dollars, forgery is somewhat
frowned upon by the authorities, and the poor guy who found out he bought a
fake. It is safe to say that one could walk into just about every famous art
museum and find some kind of forgery hanging up on their sacred walls. Even the
‘experts’ can disagree to the authenticity of a work, so who knows for sure?
One thing about the Dao, no forgeries there, just straight truth.
