It is said that on the west side of Chicago on certain
nights, especially on nights of a new moon when it is dark and windy it is said
that one can hear the distant sound of animals making all kinds of sounds. How
could this possibly be? Legend had it that a circus fire or some other kind of
catastrophe had claimed the lives of many animals and the sounds were those of
the restless spirits of those who perished in this terrible happening. The
ghost stories proliferated as the years went by until one day, it was explained
that the animal sounds were coming from the very much alive animals living in
the not too distant Brookfield Zoo and under certain atmospheric conditions,
the sound of these animals could be heard!
