Two students were walking from the temple to the village to buy supplies. They had strict orders to go directly to the market and return without stopping anywhere on the way. Walking down a mountain road they saw some beautiful flowers just off the path that they were following. One of the students said “Those would look wonderful in my room. I shall go get them.” As he walked off the path to pick them he stumbled over a rock and tumbled into a deep ravine below, never to be seen again. The other student went back to the temple and told Master Li what had happened. Master Li shook his head with disappointment and said, “I hope the fool didn’t break any of the flowers on his way down.”
