They can pass all the laws they want to in society, but a follower of the Dao ignores them. Yet, this one lives a life of the highest ethics because he adheres to the code of the ancients. He ignores the advice of the feeble minded, and leads his own life in his own way. When obligated, he mixes with those he must mix with, but stays above the fray, remaining pure in spirit and untouched.
