I love this time of year
chilly nights
Halloween frights
I had a friend
who always
hated
hated this time of year
feared it
people were always
coming around
trying to stick
a knife in him
his name was
Jack
Jack O’Lantern
one day they did
stick a knife
in him
top of his head
disemboweled him
carved him up
put a candle in him
put him on their porch
he was there for a
week or two
then somebody smashed
his body
on the sidewalk
desecrated his corpse
truly a sad ending
