Stigmata

The word Stigmata is a term used that is used by members of the Catholic faith to describe the body marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations that are corresponding to the wounds of Jesus Christ, when he suffered crucifixion... such as to the hands, the wrists, and the feet...one of the most curious of happenings...an individual that has borne the wounds of Stigmata is referred to as a stigmatist or a stigmatic...the events of stigmata are primarily associated with the Roman Catholic faith... for some reason, a high percentage (suggested at over 80%) of all stigmatics are women...there seems to be no single mechanism whereby the marks of stigmata were produced according to ‘experts’... what is important is that the marks are recognized by others as of religious significance...reported cases of stigmata have taken various forms...many have shown some or all of five of what is called the ‘Holy Wounds’...that is that were, according to the Bible, inflicted on Jesus during his crucifixion... wounds that are seen on the wrists and the feet, from nails... and in the side, from a lance...some even display wounds to the forehead similar to those caused by the Crown of Thorns...some have suffered pain during this time, other have not...some have occurred by what was termed ‘unconscious mutilation’...and there have of course been many cases of fraudulent stigmata which were manipulated on purpose which have been reported and turned out to be frauds...many believe all cases to be fake.
