So, what exactly is a mystic?...well
first of all, it can’t be defined ‘exactly’...but it is defined as a person who
seeks through contemplation and self-surrender to obtain a unity with or
absorption into the Deity or the absolute…or who believes in the spiritual
apprehension of truths that are well beyond the intellect…some are called
mystics because they are involved or are characterized by what most would
consider esoteric or otherworldly practices or thoughts…it may be in the form
of certain religious ceremonies and art…that definition may be true or
misleading…a mystic may be a person who claims to attain, or believes in the very
real possibility of attaining an insight into the mysteries that transcend what
would be called ordinary human knowledge, perhaps something that is associated
with the paranormal…some believe themselves to be mystics because of what they
feel is a direct communication with the divine or an immediate intuition in a
state of spiritual ecstasy…a mystic may claim they have a deep knowledge of
religious mysteries…but a mystic can also be someone who feels a deep
connection to the universe, and to that which is unknown or unexplained…I call
myself a mystic for that very reason…it’s difficult to explain, but it’s a
feeling…a feeling of depth and understanding…even the feeling of not
understanding, but yet understanding and a belief that not all things can be rationally
explained or understood.
