What if all of a sudden
there was a spaceship descending from the sky…the networks would break in for ‘breaking
news’ with breathless reports…at least I hope they would…of course we wouldn’t
want to interrupt any fascinating ‘reality’ shows…this would be the ultimate
reality wouldn’t it?...that being said, you couldn’t depend on them to give you
the truth…they would either mislead you with their own opinionated slant or
they would be typically clueless about what they were reporting…would you feel
frightened?...curious?...excited?…would you run for a ‘safe spot’…like there
are any safe spots on earth anymore…it seems you can’t get away from just about
anything anymore…what could we expect of our visitors?...should we even expect
anything?...if we did, maybe we would be disappointed…what would they want, if
anything?...what would they do?...perhaps they would dazzle us with their
brilliance…their outstanding knowledge…or maybe we couldn’t communicate with
them at all…that’s not a given that we could…or maybe they wouldn’t even want
to communicate with us…perhaps they would be bored or disappointed at what they
found…we think we’re great, but we’re not so great…people are still starving…
the planet is being destroyed…man finds new ways to be cruel to each other…all
these years and we still haven’t learned to get along with one another…the same
hatreds…the same prejudices…the same selfishness…it never ends…all these
thousands of years and we’re still dealing with the same idiocy…perhaps they
would just shake their heads, or whatever they had…with all that, I don’t think
they’d come here with their guns-a-blazin’…would they try to take
over?...maybe, maybe not…
