A senior student said,
“I feel my study here is complete.” Master Li said, “You know, if you eat green
bananas, you get a terrible tummyache. The student thought for a moment and
then asked Master Li what he meant. “As a banana, you don’t know if you are
ready to be eaten yet or not. You simply exist as a banana. Someone else must
decide whether you are ripe. You have practiced diligently but you are not
quite ripe yet. You’re still an innocent banana.”
