Mystic revelations and
sudden enlightenment are the things that fables are made of. There are no
sudden awakenings; no waterfall or deluge of wisdom. It is more of a steady
drip. Slowly, slowly, and surely, things come together. The veil of delusion
and misunderstanding is lifted and clarity becomes the master. Of course if we
are told it will take time and time takes time, many don’t have the patience
for such a thing. Too many people are in an on demand mode. This reminds me of
the story of the new student who asked the temple master how long it would take
to reach enlightenment. He was told it could take ten years or more. The
student protested and said he couldn’t wait that long. The teacher then said, “In
your case then, it will probably be far longer”.
