A monk once told
me that we may give things away but there are different levels of giving. When
we give away what we don’t want, when we give away part of what we want, and
when we give away all of what we want. I hadn’t thought of it that way before
or maybe I did but didn’t pay attention to the subtle differences. Of course,
any kind of giving is good. They say it is better to give than receive but it
is nice to be on the receiving end of kindness sometimes too. It tends to
restore your faith in human nature against the deluge of evilness and
selfishness that one encounters.
