There is a saying that
“I wish to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.” It is indeed a distinguished
goal. My dogs do not know my faults and shortcomings nor do they know my hopes
and fears. He or she is only agog to be loved. A dog lives for the moment. He
does not know when he is going to die nor does he even think about it. This is
true of all animals. Man is the only one who knows that he will die someday.
Even then, most of us are unprepared for the inevitable. It is only when we
chance upon death that we realize the beauty and preciousness of life. The dog
lives his life moment to moment to moment and is happy at what we would
consider the most mundane things; a small treat, a ride in the car, going for a
walk. We can learn a great deal from our four legged friends.
