Have you ever had a dream where a phone rang and you thought
it was your cellphone ringing in your dream, but then it rang again and you
suddenly realized you were in a dream and your phone was ringing in real life
so you chose to wake up? It happened to me last night. Dreams can be very
strange; incoherent bits of things that can amuse us or throw fear into us. That
reminds us of the story of Zhuangzi who one night dreamed of being a butterfly
— a happy butterfly, showing off and doing things as he pleased, unaware of
being Zhuangzi. Suddenly he awoke, drowsily as Zhuangzi again. And he could not
tell whether it was Zhuangzi who had dreamt the butterfly or the butterfly
dreaming of Zhuangzi.
