The Tao Te Ching
instructs us not to go to extremes. We know that light is followed by darkness
which in turn is followed by light. To remain well-balanced, we cannot veer to
one extreme or another no matter how good our intentions are. An extremist sees
no other way and hence he is blind to any other possibilities. One who is in
harmony with the Dao knows that his way is not the only way, nor should he
consider it the best way; only that it is the way for him. To be elitist is to
show a lack of humility.
