Self-realization
can be a dreadful experience. Jack Henry Abbott once said “I find it painful
and angering to look in a mirror.” We can find it painful to see our once young
appearance now faded or fading. We can be angry about what we see. We could
wind up hating ourselves for the things we have become. We should note one of
the Five Remembrances Buddha taught. It states that we are powerless to stop
aging. Hopefully, as we age we become wiser and not just older.
