Many seek to be original, but what after all these years can be original? Musicians steal, no wait, steal may be too harsh. Let us say they ‘borrow’ from other songs. Painters borrow from the masters. Even sages have been known to lift from one another. The Tao is the true original and everyone is free to take from it, yet few do. It is the artificial, the superfluous, that appeal to most, that which is covered in shiny tin foil or bright flashing lights. So many people try to be ‘original’ that they wind up copying one another and end up being like everyone else.
