Texas Oil Boom

The Texas Oil Boom was a period of dramatic change and tremendous economic growth in the state of Texas during the early 20th century...it all began with the discovery of a large petroleum reserve near Beaumont, Texas…it was called the Spindletop and its find of 1901 caused a huge migration as thousands of men came to work the fields and to strike it rich… so much so that in 1900, the population of Beaumont, Texas was about 8,500. Within 30 days of the famed Lucas Gusher, the population had surged to 30,000…the new well produced approximately 100,000 barrels of oil per day which was an unprecedented level of production at the time…
